Does health insurance coverage apply to local care only?
No. Coverage applies to local as well as overseas care where services are not available locally or insureds have a medical emergency while overseas.
Can I upgrade my existing Individual Health plan?
Yes. Policyholders can upgrade their existing plans at the renewal date of the policy.
Can I insure my dependents under my health insurance policy?
Yes. Policyholders can insure eligible dependents—spouse by marriage or common-law, unmarried dependent children up to age 18 or up to age 25 if still full-time student.
How can I purchase life or health insurance?
Contact any member of our Sales Team listed on our website or visit any of our Branch Offices to discuss the process.
What is Whole Life insurance?
A policy which provides coverage for the duration of an individual’s life, rather than a specified term period. It includes a savings component, called cash value, which increases over time.
What is Term Life Insurance?
A policy which pays the face value upon the death of the insured provided that the insured dies within the term of coverage. Coverage ends at a specified time. Term insurance does not have a cash value.
Can I borrow from my life insurance policy?
Yes. If your policy has a cash value, there is a provision for you to apply for a policy loan. Whole Life and Endowment policies have a cash value after 3 years.
Can I convert a term policy to a whole life policy?
Yes. NCI has a Five-Year renewable and convertible term policy that can be converted into a whole life policy.
What are the different options for paying premiums?
Premium payments can be made by salary deductions, bankers’ orders and electronic and cash payments at the company’s offices.
Who is the beneficiary on a policy?
The party (individual, entity, trustee) who is named to receive insurance proceeds upon the death of an insured person. The beneficiary is named when a policy is taken out and can be changed anytime at the request of the policy owner.
Will my life insurance premium rate change each year?
No. Life insurance premiums are guaranteed throughout the life of the policy.
Can an insured be covered under more than one health insurance plan?
Yes. An individual can be covered under a Group plan as well as an Individual policy.
Is there a maximum number of life insurance policies an individual can be covered under?
No. There is no limit to the number of individual life insurance policies a member can have.
Do I have to repay a life insurance policy loan?
Yes. Policy loans must be repaid with interest.
If I buy a new car, can I transfer my cover to the new car?
Yes, you must notify us of the change of vehicle which may be subject to an additional premium based on the type, engine size and value of the vehicle replacing
If I have a foreign driver's license, what do I need to do?
You need to obtain a local driver's license from the vehicle liscensing authority to drive in St. Kitts-Nevis. We will accept OECS driver's licenses as valid
Can I buy vehicle insurance for a vehicle that is not owned by me?
If you drive a vehicle that you are responsible for but do not own then you CANNOT arrange cover for this vehicle
Can I get immediate cover for my vehicle to move it from customs?
We issue cover notes in our offices for immediate use
What is a No Claims Discount (NCD)?
"This is discount which is earned by an individual for having a claim-free/accident-free period of insurance. Every year of claim free driving increases your NCD until is reaches maximum.
A NCD cannot be borrowed, loaned, or transferred to another individual. It is earned separately for each vehicle owned and can be transferred from one vehicle to another with the same ownership. Once there is a claim against your policy, your NCD may be affected"
Am I covered if I am hit by an uninsured driver?
Once you have a Comprehensive insurance policy, our cover automatically includes cover for you and your vehicle in the even you are hit by an uninsured. However, if you have a Third Party insurance policy, we can only offer our assistance in helping you to recover for damages from the liable party.
Do you insure motorcycles?
We offer Road Act insurance cover only, which is the most basic insurance required to drive your vehicle. This cover only covers for a maximum of EC$5000 for third party liability
Do you insure vans and minibuses?
Yes, we insure all types of vehicles
Do you need proof of road worthiness?
we only insure vehicles that are verified as roadworthy and safe. Therefore it is imperative that you have your vehicle properly inspected by a professional and certified mechanic for your safety and they safety of other road users.
Can I temporarily add a driver to my vehicle insurance?
Yes, (Named Driver Policies) additional drivers can be added (maximum 3) but may be subject to an additional premium if under aged or inexperience drivers. A copy of their Driver's License will also be required for each additional driver. However, if you have a n open driver policy, their is no requirement to request adding drivers as your policy allows for any driver. However, eh applicable deductible will apply in the event of a claim.
How can I remove a driver from my policy?
you can remove a driver by notifying us on which driver you wish to remove and we will remove them and process any refund where applicable.
Can I get a copy of my Insurance certificate if misplaced?
Yes, if you request a new motor insurance certificate we will prepare one for you for your collection from our offices with a small processing fee.
Can I get proof of my No Claims Discount?
yes, oif you request a letter confirming your No Claims Discount, we will prepare one for you to collect from our offices.
Do I need to inform you of any modifications I have made to my vehicle?
all of our motor insurance covers standard vehicles only unless we are advised otherwise.
Do you offer road side rescue?
We insure the cost of roadside assistance following an accident but we do not provide a roadside assistance service.
Do you offer short term insurance policies?
Yes we offer short term insurance cover (minimum 3 months).
Does my policy cover me to drive abroad?
No, our motor policies are for vehicles being used in our Jurisdiction (St. Kitts-Nevis) and Anguilla for Anguilla policies.
Does my policy cover me to drive other vehicles?
Our Motor Insurance policies permit named drivers to drive other cars but cover is limited to Third-Party Liability only. (See policy terms and conditions)
Does No Claims Discount from other Insurers grant me access to NCI's No Claims Discount?
Yes, No Claims Discounts from other insurance companies are generally accepted by us to obtain our No Claims Discount. A No Claims Discount Letter must be requested and obtained from your previous insurer.
How much of my No Claims Discount will I lose if I make a claim?
If you are liable for the claim, then depending on the type of vehicle policies cover and amount of discount you have then a stepdown discount calculation will be made on your policy.
In the event of a claim, can I use a garage of my choice?
you can suggest the garage of your choice.
Is my spouse covered to drive my car?
If you have a named driver policy, then your spouse would have to be named as a driver. If you have an open cover policy, then your spouse would be covered providing that you authorised them to drive.
What is a multi-vehicle discount entitle me to?
Multi-vehicle discounts (fleet discount) is offered to policyholders once you have 3 or more vehicle policies with NCI. The discount will be applied to the third policy started and any other vehicle policy started thereafter.
If I sold my vehicle or property; do I have to notify NCI?
Yes, we would need to know the date sold so that we can process the cancellation of your policy .
Are storm, hurricane and flood damage insured on a home insurance policy?
Yes acts of god are covered unless you have insured for limited perils only.
Are there any age limits for home insurance?
There are no age limits.
Are there discounts available for high building quality?
Our pricing rewards those risks which are built to a high construction standard.
Can I choose the excess that I pay towards the cost of any claims?
some excess are compulsory (e.g. 2% for natural catastrophe) but others are voluntary. Please ask our underwriters for discounts available for voluntary deductibles.
Can I insure my contents in a rented home?
Contents can be insured by you for a home that you rent in part or whole.
Do you insure second homes and holidy houses or apartments?
We can provide cover for rented accommodation and second homes.
Do you offer help to prepare my home for a hurricane?
we can give advice to minimise the risk of loss or damage, please talk to our underwriters or see our hurricane preparednes guide.
Do you offer insurance to homes on te seafront?
Proximity to the sea is not an issue for us providing the height elevation is above 5meters.
Does home insurance cover public liability?
Our home cover has an automatic limit of EC$250,000 included, if you would like to increase this please talk to one of our underwriters for a quote?
Does my home insurance cover my outbuildings?
Outbuildings declared and named on the policy schedule are covered.
Does my home insurance policy cover vadalism?
Vandalism is covered.
Does my home insurance remain in cover if my home is unoccupied?
Your home can be unoccupied for up to 45 days without impacting your cover.
How much should I insure my home and contents for?
It is important to insure for replacement value and not the market value. That is the cost you would incurr in rebuilding your home and replacing contents.
Is my home insurance on a n'new or old' basis?
We offer indemnity and new for old insurance.
What happens if I cannot live in my home due to flood, fire or hurricane damage?
Our standard household policy does cover the cost of limited altertnative accommodation/hotel costs.
Can non-citizens of St. Kitts-Nevis or Anguilla buy insurance?
Yes, but insurance will only cover risks or exposures in those 3 territories in which we operate. Our insurance policies are designed to meet the needs of both nationals and foreign residents.
What do I need to start a policy with NCI?
Please complete the relevant Insurance application form and we will assess your risk and issue you with a quotation advising you the premium, terms and condition of which we would be happy to insure you. Your instructions and payment will then bind cover from an agreed date for an agreed period(3 months, 6 months, 9 months or 1 year). Kindly see documents required under each of the policy type.
Should I decide not to renew my policy with NCI; when do I have to notify you?
Your policy will lapse at the end of its contractual term (usually 1 year), if you do not notify us that you wish to renew.
I made a mistake on the insurance application- what should I do?
Please notify us immediately of the error and resupply the Insurance application Form with the correct information.
What is the cost of insurance?
The insurance premium is calculated for each risk based on its risk profile. We aim to reward good risks with lower premiums and offer discounts to loyal customers and good claims records.
What is an Excess or Deductible?
An Excess (or deductible) is the first amount of a loss that is to be paid by the policyholder. This can be either voluntary (i.e you take the excess to reduce the premium) or compulsory (we impose the excess automatically)
What are your office opening hours?
Our office opening hours are 8:30am to 3:0opm Mondays to Thursdays and to 4:00pm on Fridays. We are closed on Saturdays and sundays and National holidays.
Why do I need to complete a Customer Information Form (CIF) and provide documents to complete a transaction?
The request for the customer information documents are in keeping with our obligations to satisfy our Regulatory Know your Customer requirements that allows us to continue to operate within our regulated jurisdiction. The aids in our fight for Anit-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism
